Afterglow Farm was built in 1929 by Joseph and Ilma Uihlein. Joseph, the general manager of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, became a gentleman farmer after he retired from Schlitz. Located by Lake Michigan in Port Washington, Wisconsin the farm has been preserved by their grandchildren as a memorial and is maintained as a Garden Conservancy. Their granddaughter, Lynde, told me that time passes differently at the farm. I can attest to its magical qualities for as I wander the property I often feel as if I have been transported to a different era, a quieter time, which I hope I convey in my images. I will continue to wander, photograph and share.
